In honor of the flag-waving support for the German Mannschaft, I've composed a little satire that pokes fun at the "New Patriotism," a phenomenon unthinkable in Germany before it hosted the World Cup in 2006. Enjoy! I apologize (im voraus) for any vocal, musical or recording imperfections.
Lyrics:
We made it through the Great War
And World War Two
Berlin Wall fell and then
Wiedervereinigung
We were sad, we felt bad
Cuz our dads killed 6 million Jews
Now I'm waving goodbye
To Vergangenheits
Bewähltinung
Like a German (Hey!)
Don't you think it's about time?
Like a Ger-er-er-er-man
Neues Deutschland is feeling fine
Come now give me all your face paint
From your make up bag
Honk your horns day and night
And wave your flags
What a yolk for das Volk
To be damned till the end of time
So now I'm finding my voice
Yes I'm finding my stolz
And it feels just sublime
Like a German (Hey!)
Don't mention national crimes
Like a Ger-er-er-er-man
When I holler, raise your Steins
Ja ja ja ja ja ja ja ja
Let's take back the Heimat
With a Sieg in the football league
Every time they yell Tor
Every time they yell Tor
I'll know what to do...
Like a German (Hey)
This Kampf is certainly mein
Like a Ger-er-er-er-man
Here's a flag for your laundry line
Like a German ohhh-ooohh- ohhh
Painting Schwart-Rot-Gelb
On my Auto
And my Fenster
And my forehead
And my testicle
Ooh...Liebchen...Ja
Stoltze Deutsche Jungs
Kehren Heim!
